Premier Tournament Policy

Purpose:

This document serves as a guideline for the annual tournament selection/participation that has been budgeted into the annual Gunners Premier program fees.

Tournaments:

The following applies for annual tournament selection and participation.

  • Teams aged U12-U18 may play at least three tournaments annually (exclusive of State/Regional/National Cup participation). Teams should make every effort to participate in tournaments within the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho). Travel to out of State tournaments should be within one day's (10 hours) driving distance. Occasionally, one or more teams may be participating in a tournament beyond the PNW. These tournaments must be pre-approved by the Director of Coaching and will count as one of their four scheduled tournaments.

  • Teams aged U10-U11 may play three or more tournaments annually (exclusive of State/Regional/National Cup participation). Teams should make every effort to participate in tournaments within the State of Washington. Only one of the tournaments may be out of State. However, travel to any out of State tournament must be within one day's (10 hours) driving distance.

  • Teams aged U8-U9 may play two or more tournaments annually. Teams should make every effort to participate in tournaments within the State of Washington. Only one of the tournaments may be out of State. However, travel to any out of State tournament must be within one day's (10 hours) driving distance.

  • All expenses relating to the coach, including transportation, lodging and meals for tournaments will be the responsibility of the team(s).

  • International travel. It is recommended that only U13 and older teams consider international travel, excluding British Columbia. ISC does not cover international travel expenses and the team will underwrite all expenses for international travel. As a general rule, if a coach is recommending international travel, then the coach should anticipate covering his/her travel expenses in order to limit the financial burden on the team.

  • Teams that qualify for regional and national tournaments will not be penalized if they have already fulfilled their annual allotment of tournaments. Teams that qualify for these tournaments will be expected to meet all associated costs in the event that they choose to enter.

  • Extra Tournaments. Coaches wishing to participate in additional tournaments must gain permission from ISC's Director of Coaching prior to entry.

In the event that approval from the Director of Coaching is granted:

  • If the coach is attending an extra tournament for one or more of his/her assigned teams, then the team(s) shall bear the cost of the coach entirely or equally which ever is the case. These expenses should be discussed with the Team Manager(s) ahead of time so that it can be communicated to the parents.

  • Further, since the coaches are employees of the Club and paid an annual salary, there will be no additional salary compensation by either the Club or the team for a coach's participation in tournaments.

  • Teams shall not enter tournaments if their coach or another coach approved by the Director of Coaching is unable to attend.

Exceptions to the number and location of tournaments must be approved in advance by the Director of Soccer Operations.
